In 2024, an estimated 148.9 million working days were lost due to sickness or injury in the UK. Mental health conditions are a leading cause of sickness absence, with stress, depression and anxiety being major contributors to lost work days. Where staff feel supported at work and can optimise their mental wellbeing, they can perform at their best for the organisation, have positive relations with colleagues, and lead balanced and happier lives.
Mindfulness has been shown to have overall benefits for mental health, particularly helpful for stress and anxiety. There is also evidence that meditation improves the immune system, inflammatory processes, and can even help with some diseases. A key aspect of mindfulness is concentration, so it's also a great boost for focus and productivity.
Workplace mindfulness sessions can help people to pause, gather themselves, come together in community, have renewed intention for their day, and helps teams in building mindful listening and wise communication.
Whether you would like a 10 minute mindfulness exercise at the start of a meeting, or hour long lunchtime awareness session - email me and let me know what you need!
This Autumn I am bringing together my personal lived experience of addiction recovery and professional mindfulness teaching in my unique and innovative low-cost staff awareness sessions "Mindfulness Awareness for Recovery Workers". We know that people trying to recover from addiction face many challenges and the relapse rates are high. These useful sessions will give some quick, practical tools for your kit to help you both support and signpost your service users. Of course many people will not want to sit and meditate, but everyday mindfulness is not just about sitting with our eyes closed. There are a range of effective resourcing and grounding techniques that can help people pause rather than respond to a craving and deal with daily stressors impacting their recovery.
Here are some of the ways mindfulness tools can help your clients
Of course, mindfulness on it's own will not solve cravings and is not a quick fix, but it IS a fantastic additional resource for your clients. The sessions will support you to have conversations with them about techniques they can use and to signpost them to online resources with confidence.
